LEAGUE SERIES APPROVAL CONFIRMED BY THE FEI
PRESS RELEASE
The Premier Jumping League (PJL) Receives FEI Series Approval Ahead of Inaugural 2027 Season
New York, July 1, 2026
The PJL is delighted to announce that it has received FEI Series Approval following the FEI Board meeting on 30 June – 1 July, marking a major milestone in the League's development.
This approval formally sanctions the rules and regulations of the PJL Series. The FEI has approved the League’s competition formats, team formation structure, rider selection process, prize money distribution, and other operational mechanics.
$1,000,000 in prize money will be available to riders across each CSI5* competition weekend.
Commenting on the approval, Neil Moffitt, CEO of the PJL said: “This approval is a result of a collaborative and constructive dialogue with the FEI, and we are delighted with the outcome.
The PJL is not seeking to reinvent jumping, nor to disrupt the existing ecosystem. Our objective is to present the sport in a way that protects its integrity, respects its heritage, and creates greater opportunities for everyone involved.
This is about positioning jumping alongside other elite sports – not as a niche pursuit, but as a premium international sporting product capable of attracting major audiences, sponsors, broadcasters, and commercial partners.
I am incredibly proud of the professionalism and dedication shown by the entire PJL team throughout this process, and I would like to thank the FEI for its positive engagement. We are excited to begin the next chapter and deliver a competition series that benefits the sport for generations to come.”
Day 1 of PJL competition begins with a seeding class. Individual results are aggregated to determine overall team rankings for Day 2.
On Day 2, teams compete directly based upon their Day 1 standings in a multi-round format designed to maximise suspense and audience engagement. All riders participate in Round 1. Thereafter, a single horse-and-rider combination from each team advances to compete in Rounds 2 through 4 over a shortened course, with teams progressing through successive elimination rounds.
Day 3 culminates in a 1.60m competition offering $700,000 in prize money. The starting order is determined by team rankings at the conclusion of Day 2 competition.
Importantly, 1.60m competition is reserved exclusively for Day 3, limiting repeated jumping at maximum height and reinforcing the League’s commitment to horse welfare by reducing the cumulative demands placed on horses throughout the event.
16 teams will take part in the PJL’s regular season. There will be a scheduled mid-season break during which riders may be transferred between teams. Teams finishing 15th and 16th in the standings after the regular season will be automatically eliminated. Teams finishing 1st and 2nd in the standings after the regular season will automatically advance to the final. Twelve teams will take part in the Playoffs, with six progressing to the Final. This structure rewards season-long performance with teams ultimately competing for a share of the remaining $100,000,000 prize pot, setting a new benchmark for professional jumping.
The FEI approval comes days after the PJL’s announcement of a landmark $50 million team purchase by McCarthy Jumping Team - an acquisition believed to represent the highest price ever paid for a team in a startup sports league prior to its inaugural event.
